CURRICULUM VITAE

Life of Regina Zielinski

She arrived in Sobibor from the Scaf ghetto. There she was appointed with twelve other girls to knit and repair clothes. Already on the second day after her arrival in Sobibor, she was confronted with what had been the lot of the rest of her family. When the Germans offered her new clothes she recognised her sister’s boots and her mother’s coat.

After the escape, she stayed for two nights with two other prisoners at a Polish farmer. Whatever they had left got stolen there. Regina escaped further via Chelm to Lublin. She travelled – in mid war time – by train via Hannover to Frankfurt/M. through totally destroyed stations. She survived, pretending she was a catholic Polish girl. Having arrived in Frankfurt, she got a job as a ‘nanny’ at the home of a Nazi director.

After the war Regina emigrated to Australia. She married a catholic Polish man who died some years ago. For a long time she worked in a ‘ready-to-wear’ apparel-factory. She lived in Sidney, as did her married daughter, and then moved to Adelaide.
